With its deep rooted wine tradition, Peralada forms part of the DO Empordà wine route

The DO Empordà wine route offers a variety of activities and experiences designed to discover our deep rooted wine making tradition.

Empordà is wine country and there is written evidence of wine-making at Peralada as early as the XIV century. And so it is an essential stop on the DO Empordà wine route.

Wine-making has been documented at Peralada since the Middle Ages, and when Sr. Miquel Mateu bought Peralada Castle in 1923, he revitalized this tradition with Vins i Caves Castell de Peralada (the wines and cavas of Peralada Castle), one of our countries most respected wine producers.

The Peralada Castle museum includes the wine museum where you can find a large exhibition of 750 objects related to wine culture. It is located in a section of the old wineries of the Carmelite friars, where wine production began in the XIV century.
