This square owes its name to the Dominican convent which was established in 1578 on the premises of a former Augustinian convent. The archway above the entrance ramp, was the door to the Dominican church.
In this square you can also see one of the old gates of the city wall, in the arch that opens onto the street Carrer de la Burriana, where a tower of the old wall, hidden inside a house on this street, is conserved to this day.
La Casa Avinyó, a large 18th century house topped with a coat of the Avinyó family, dominates the square.
