The devotion to Sant Martí, the favourite saint of the Carolingian kings, shows the age of the parish church of Peralada, subsequently confirmed by archaeological excavations, which uncovered the floor of a small pre-Romanesque temple of the early 9th century. Today, you can see the remains of the Romanesque temple, consecrated in 1208 and the belfry tower of the 14th century, which affirms the ultimately unsuccessful intention to build a large gothic temple. The current building is Neoclassical in style and was built towards the end of the 18th century.
